Year 6 Transition Mass

Transition Mass

Starting a new school can be an exciting time, but also a little scary! In order to celebrate this new stage in your life, we have a special celebration prior to your arrival in Y7.

Usually, when someone wants to celebrate a special birthday or achievement, they gather around a table to share a special meal. Jesus invites us to share a special meal with Him. This meal is called the Eucharist or Mass.

On Friday 29th June, we will gather around the Altar in the John Caden Hall and share the Eucharist together. The theme of our Mass is ‘Worthy’ We will give thanks that God has made us and that He loves us with a perfect love.

On this Liturgy website, you will be able to read the readings from the Bible that we will use in the Mass, listen to snippets of the Hymns we will use and prepare yourself for this special celebration.

For some of you, this may be your first experience of the Catholic Mass and so we want you to feel especially comfortable and welcome. You will find information on this site to help you understand the different parts of the Mass and how to be involved within it.

I look forward to meeting you all very soon!

Mr Gardner
The Mass is when we do what Jesus did at the Last Supper. Catholics believe that through the power of the Holy Spirit, the bread and Wine transform into Jesus’ actual Body and Blood through the words of Consecration.

The first part of the Mass is called the Liturgy of the Word and this is when we listen carefully to what God is trying to say to us. We think about the readings and try to relate them to our own lives. We offer prayers for the world, our College community, our family and friends and ourselves.

The second part of the Mass is called the Liturgy of the Eucharist and this is when we offer to God our whole lives and when the priest offers the gifts of bread and wine on the Altar. These gifts become for us the Body and Blood of Jesus through transubstantiation.
A reading from the Prophet Jeremiah (Jer 1:4-10)
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I dedicated you,
a prophet to the nations I appointed you.
To whomever I send you, you shall go;
whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Have no fear before them,
because I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 12: 4- 27
I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more worth than many sparrows.

During your time with your new form, you will be given a template of a bird. On this template you are invited to write all the things that make you special, all those things that make you rejoice. This bird will be added to our Y7 Tree during the Mass.
